Who Am I?

As long as I can remember, people have described me as "bubbly", "outgoing", and "friendly".  It is those character traits that I bring to my work with clients.  I have a relaxed approach that makes it easy for me to engage clients in a therapeutic relationship.

I received my Bachelor of Science degree from St. Francis College in Brooklyn, NY.  I then obtained my Master's of Social Work degree from Fordham University in New York City.  I am a Licensed Clinical Social Worker with the State of New York and I am approved to provide Telehealth services to residents of the State of Florida.

Throughout my professional career, I have received post graduate training in various therapeutic approaches.  I have completed EMDR Basic Training. EMDR is a therapeutic approach mostly used to help people with symptoms of PTSD or Complex PTSD. Additionally, I also completed a two year Trauma Studies Certificate program at the Manhattan Institute for Psychoanalysis. I have also completed Body Centered Psychotherapy training through the National Institute of Psychotherapies in NYC. I am currently enrolled in Beginner training for Somatic experiencing through Somatic Experiencing International.

My previous work experience, most recently as an Administrative Supervisor of a mental health clinic with JBFCS, as well as being the Coordinator of a nationally recognized, neighborhood based foster care program, have afforded me the opportunity to work with many families, children, teens and adults.  Additionally, my experience with individuals in private practice has allowed me to fine tune my clinical experience and techniques.

It was early in my own life that I decided I wanted to be a therapist. My years of experience as a therapist has given me the chance to receive and participate in trainings related to Anger Management, family therapy, Motivational Interviewing, EMDR, Body-Centered Psychotherapy, and Somatic Experiencing approaches.  I have experience providing therapy with various populations struggling with difficult situations including life transitions, trauma, adoption issues, parenting/co-parenting concerns, grief, anxiety, depression, PTSD and CPTSD, anger management, mood disorders, behavioral concerns including overeating and relational problems.

With adults, I utilize an eclectic approach to therapy, drawing from Narrative therapy, Motivational Interviewing, and Psychodynamic as well as other therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of my clients. Together, we develop a treatment plan that is tailored specifically to your goals and needs.  As a therapist, working from a strength based perspective, we can identify your strengths to bring about the change and results you desire.

In July of 2012, I became a Certified Anger Management Specialist, level I with the National Anger Management Association.  This training allows me to offer Anger Management groups and sessions for people court mandated for services.

In June of 2016, I received a Certificate in Trauma Studies from the Manhattan Institute of Psychoanalysis.  Trauma can be experienced in traumatic events such as September 11, 2001 or can be experienced as a relational trauma in childhood.  When a person experiences trauma it can affect their level of functioning and have a long lasting impact on your relationships with others.

In January of 2019, I completed Basic Training of EMDR therapy. EMDR is used for clients who have experienced a one time traumatic event, such as September 11, 2001, Hurricane Sandy, a car accident or other traumatic event or clients who have experienced complex trauma such as past physical or sexual abuse as a child, ongoing past relational problems or other traumatic events. I now offer EMDR intensives to individuals. EMDR intensives are a great way to work through trauma in a short span of time.
