Comprehensive Dissociation Assessment

Dissociation can take many forms, and it is not always obvious. Some people experience significant dissociative symptoms while continuing to work, maintain relationships, and function well in many areas of their lives.

If you or your therapist have questions about whether dissociation may be contributing to symptoms or difficulties in treatment, I offer comprehensive assessment using the Multidimensional Inventory of Dissociation (MID) as part of a broader clinical evaluation.

The MID is a comprehensive self-report measure designed to assess a wide range of dissociative experiences and symptoms. It can be particularly helpful when there are questions about complex dissociation or dissociative disorders.

What the Assessment Includes

A comprehensive assessment typically involves approximately 6–6.5 hours of professional time and may include:

  • Completion of the MID assessment

  • Scoring, interpretation, and detailed review of MID results

  • An extended clinical assessment interview

  • Exploration of relevant trauma, dissociative symptoms, functioning, and clinical history

  • Consultation with your current therapist, when applicable and with your written authorization

  • Integration of assessment findings with clinical interview information

  • A detailed written report summarizing findings and clinical recommendations

  • Feedback and recommendations regarding possible next steps

The MID is one component of the assessment process. Results are not interpreted in isolation. Assessment findings are considered alongside your history, clinical presentation, interview, and other relevant information.

You Can Remain With Your Current Therapist

You do not need to transfer therapy to me in order to receive an assessment.

When you are already working with a therapist, I can provide the assessment as a consultative service and, with your authorization, collaborate with your therapist throughout the process. This allows your therapist to remain an important part of your care while providing additional information that may help guide treatment planning.

Who Might Consider an Assessment?

A more comprehensive dissociation assessment may be helpful when there are questions about experiences such as memory gaps, depersonalization or derealization, significant shifts in internal experience or sense of self, unexplained changes in functioning, or trauma treatment that repeatedly becomes difficult or disrupted.

Assessment is intended to help develop a more complete understanding of what you are experiencing and to inform thoughtful treatment planning.
